Sally Gardner – Children’s Writer

Sally Gardner had an extremely difficult time at school. She was bullied for being different and did not learn to read until she was 14. She cares deeply about helping other dyslexic people and often supports dyslexia related projects. She contributed to the RASP (Rebelling Against Spelling Press) anthology of writing by dyslexics, Everything is Spherical. She can also be seen in the documentary about dyslexic writers and storytellers on our Writers page.

She is a bestselling children’s writer who has won several awards including the Costa Children’s Book Award and Carnegie Medal for her Young Adult novel Maggot Moon. She won the Smarties Children’s Book Prize for I, Coriander. Her book The Silver Blade was nominated for the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize .
